With the increasing use of plastic materials in different industrial sectors, the Plastic industry has emerged as the second largest growing industry in Pakistan . The production of plastics is part of the Small and Medium Manufacturing sector which maintained a healthy growth of 7.5% in the current year.
Since the Government has declared 2009 as the "National Year of Environment"; there is special emphasis on unifying industrial efforts for waste management. There are a number of companies operating in Pakistan and abroad which are providing plastic recycling machines. Moreover; the manufacturers are devising new ways of producing bio-degradable plastics for environmental protection. These factors have also encouraged the industrialists to incorporate paper and paper-board for providing environment friendly packaging solutions. As a result; the production of Paper and Paper-Board has increased by 2.9%, standing at 702.4 thousand tonnes in 2008-09.
